Animal Music Walk

Ages 3–75 minutes

What You'll Need

  • Just yourselves and some space to move

How to Do It

  1. 1

Clear a little space in your room. You're going on an animal music walk!

  2. 2

Start by walking normally around the room together.

  3. 3

Call out an animal: "Walk like an elephant!" Move slowly, heavily, with big stomping steps.

  4. 4

Then try: "Tiptoe like a mouse!" Move quickly and lightly on your toes.

  5. 5

Try more animals: hop like a bunny, slither like a snake, gallop like a horse, waddle like a penguin.

  6. 6

Let your child choose the next animal. Follow their lead!

Why This Helps

Moving like different animals naturally teaches musical concepts like tempo (fast/slow), dynamics (loud/soft), and articulation (smooth/bouncy). Children learn these ideas through their bodies before they ever need the vocabulary — and it feels like pure play.

Try This Next

Put on different pieces of music and ask: "What animal would move like this?" Let the music inspire the movement.
