Musical Statues

Ages 4–95 minutes

What You'll Need

  • Any music you enjoy (phone or speaker)

How to Do It

  1. 1

Explain the rules: when the music plays, everyone dances. When it stops, everyone freezes like a statue!

  2. 2

Start the music and dance together. Be silly! Be dramatic! Move your whole body.

  3. 3

After 10–15 seconds, pause the music. Everyone freezes!

  4. 4

Look at each other's frozen poses and enjoy the silliness.

  5. 5

Start the music again. Try to dance differently each time.

  6. 6

Take turns being the one who controls the music.

Why This Helps

Musical Statues builds listening skills, self-control, and the ability to start and stop on cue. These are important musical skills, but they also support focus and impulse control in everyday life. Plus, it's just really fun.

Try This Next

Add a challenge: when you freeze, try to freeze in a shape that shows how the music made you feel. Happy? Excited? Calm? Show it with your body.
